Just Hit the Gold
Castle Bowmen Mid-
In June we hold our Summer WA900 'Doug Woodley' shoot.
A fairly gentle round to attract the newer archer, and many archers from other clubs usually enter.
The tournament is named after one of the founder members of Castle Bowmen and club chairman for many years.
Castle Bowmen’s Annual Mid-
A record number of Castle Bowmen archers competed this year and they all did extremely well, with many close fought battles in most categories.
Michelle W’ (Lady Paramount for the day) and Caroline P’ claimed new Glamorgan County Records as well as both picking up Golds for Recurve and Barebow respectively.
Alan G’ for the Longbows also claimed a County record and won the Silver Medal with Mike Wi’ taking Bronze.
It was a clean sweep for Castle Bowmen in the Gent Barebow category with Andrew P’ taking Gold, Peter W’ taking Silver and Dave M’ getting the Bronze.
Silver medals were also awarded to Wendy W’ for Recurve and Kathy C’ for the Lady Barebows.
Our Juniors did very too with both Rachel T’ and Sarah I’ both taking Gold in their age groups.
2016 tournament report:-
The Annual Castle Bowmen Summer shoot , the WA900 ‘Doug Woodley’ Tournament was a great success , with many county records being claimed and only a small amount of rain falling out of the sky.
The Awesome Castle Bowmen working party made sure the entire shoot ran super smoothly from start to finish and Kathy C’ acted as Lady Paramount for the day and handed out the new GIANT castle Bowmen medals to the winners at the end. (Picture below )
Castle Bowmen archers did very well with Sarah I’, Wendy W’ and Rick S’ claiming county records, plus BIG Gold medals for Heather B’ winning the Lady Barebow, Sarah I’ winning the Jnr Lady Barebow U16, Peter W’ winning the Gent Barebow and Wendy W’ winning the Lady Recurve categories.
Glenn B’ took home the Silver for the Gent Recurve and Alan G’ claiming the Bronze in a very hotly contested Longbow category, and Dave M’ also taking away Bronze for the Gent Barebows.

2015 tournament report:-
Castle Bowmen held it’s always popular Annual FITA 900 ‘Doug Woodley’ Tournament, named after one of the founders of the Club back in 1970.
The rain may have dampened the archers, but it didn’t dampen their spirits and good fun was had by all, and with even a few county records being claimed.
The sun came out at the end to see all the medal winners being presented with their prizes by Lady Paramount Kathy C’.
Well done to Rob K’ for his Bronze for the Gent Recurve, Sarah R’ for her Bronze for Lady Barebow and Lady Paramount Kathy C’ taking the Gold in that category. Well done to the Juniors Jack E’ and Owen C’ for also taking home Golds.
Gold medal also to Mike Wi’ for the Longbows and Bronze for Mark C’ and Gold for Tim E’ in the Gent Barebow Category.
2014 tournament report:-
The Annual Castle Bowmen FITA 900 ’Doug Woodley’ Tournament was shot in near perfect warm conditions, without the forecast rain, which is always a good thing.
“ Castle Bowmen Juniors did very well in the tournament with Ryan, Heather and Jack St’, shooting with the seniors, all collecting Golds in their respective age category's and ALL setting new Glamorgan County Records.
Jack E’, Sam, Owen Wi’ and Ethan Ha’, shooting the Junior FITA 900 round all came away with medals too.
Castle Bowmen seniors were in good form and took home a few shiny medals too.
Michelle equalled her own Glamorgan Record to take Gold for the Lady Barebows with Kathy, in her first tournament taking Silver in the same category.
For the Gent Barebows Adrian shot very well to take Gold, with Ian taking home the Silver and Tim E’, also in his first tournament, taking the Bronze.
Wendy took home Bronze for Lady Recurves and Rob also took home a Bronze for the Gent Recurves.
Well done to all that shot and many thanks to Caz for agreeing to act as Lady Paramount, and to all of Castle Bowmen that helped with the setting up and putting away , all of which made it another successful shoot for the club.”
2013 tournament report:-
The 2013 Castle Bowmen FITA 900 'Doug Woodley' Tournament had a full field shooting in almost ideal conditions.
"There were many successes for Castle Bowmen archers, with Michelle taking Gold for the Lady Barebow
as well as beating her previous Glamorgan record. Wendy took Gold for Lady Recurve, with Val taking Silver and
claiming the Glamorgan Veterans record in the process. Rob took the Bronze medal and also claimed the Glamorgan
record for the round for Gent Recurve. Rick also put in a claim for the Glamorgan Masters record .
Good work from the Juniors also as Bethan, Heather, Alex, Keanu and Ryan all taking Gold in their respective categories,
with Ryan also gaining his First Class Classification on the day."
2012 tournament report:-
As always Castle Bowmen archers were in fine form. Almost everyone shot a PB for the round and with Wendy, Michelle, Steve, Jon, Sophie,
Chris, Alex, Tom, Alice and Charlotte all taking home medals. Jon, Chris, Rick and Michelle all shooting new Glamorgan records too !!.
2011 tournament report:-
some encouraging results. Most competitors shooting a Personal best for the round. With Tina, Alison, Dan, Alex, Dave and Stephen all winning medals.
2010 tournament report:-
Castle Bowmen organise another superb tournament for new archers -
On a very hot and sunny day there were many Winners in many catagories for Castle Bowmen members,
with Rick, Stephen, Dan, Jess, Sioned, Neil, Meurig and Alex all taking home a medal.
Sioned also took on the role of Lady Paramount.
2009 tournament report:-
